PWDs may enjoy free LRT-2 rides from July 17 to 23
Persons with disabilities may enjoy free rides at the LRT-2 from July 17 to 23 in observance of the National Disability Rights Week.
In a Facebook post, the Department of Social Welfare and Development said free rides for PWDs will take place from 7 a.m. to 9 a.m., and from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m.
They have to present their PWD IDs at the ticket booth or to a station personnel.
In a statement, DSWD spokesperson Irene Dumlao said the libreng sakay initiative was a collaboration of the Department of Transportation, Light Rail Transit Authority, and the National Council on Disability Affairs.
"The directive of the President is for the government to rally together to safeguard the rights and welfare of persons with disabilities, and help provide opportunities for them," Dumlao said. "In fact, we have the NDRW in line with Proclamation No. 597 signed in June 2024, devoting July 17-23 of every year in celebrating the rights of the sector."
The proclamation directs the DSWD, through its attached agency NCDA, to lead, supervise, and coordinate the observance of the NDRW nationwide.
"Ang linggong ito ay hindi lang isang selebrasyon kundi isa ding paalala sa ating responsibilidad na itaguyod ang pantay na karapatan at oportunidad para sa Persons with Disability at para sa bawat Pilipino," the DSWD said in another statement.
This year's theme is "Innovation for Inclusion: Building Inclusive Communities Together."
The LRT-2 stations comprise Recto, Legarda, Pureza, V. Mapa, J. Ruiz, Gilmore, Betty Go-Belmonte, Araneta Center-Cubao, Anonas, Katipunan, Santolan, Marikina-Pasig, and Antipolo.
