Woman gets stuck in chimney after dancing, joking around on the roof
A 31-year-old woman got stuck in a chimney at a park after allegedly dancing and joking around while on the roof.
Multiple media outlets, including PEOPLE Magazine, reported that the Los Angeles Fire Department was summoned to the 200 block of North Park Avenue after Ashley Alba was found “about three feet (36 inches) deep within a ‘small chimney'" of a municipal building at the City of San Fernando Recreation Center in California.
Alba was found "conscious and alert," and was "physically stabilized" after the rescue. The building also had no structural damage.
Emergency responders reportedly used a rope system to pull her out of the chimney.
In a statement obtained by PEOPLE, the City of San Fernando said Alba “was observed acting erratically on the roof of a City of San Fernando Recreation Park building.”
“The individual did not have authorized access to the facility. While on the roof, she fell into a nearby chimney and became trapped," it said.
After being rescued, Alba was arrested and later released to the care of a local mental health facility.
Witnesses recalled her actions before the incident.
Israel Olivas told KABC that she appeared to be "dancing" on the roof.
"I come around again and I see her hands waving out the chimney," Olivas said. "She's just screaming, 'Help! Help! Help!'"
Jose River told KNBC that it was "kind of interesting" how she ended up on the roof.
"She was joking, but then she ended up stuck there; she couldn’t get out. You could tell that after a while, it was serious," River said.
The LAFD said Alba is being held for a 72-hour mental health evaluation, in line with the state law.
