Woman in General Santos gets stuck inside drainage canal as she was looking for food
A woman went inside a drainage canal in General Santos to look for food, but got stuck during her search.
According to GMA News, a 23-year-old resident of Cotabato went for a swim at sea before entering the mouth of a canal along Bula-Lagao Road. She reportedly crawled through the canal for approximately 300 meters before being discovered.
A tricycle driver passing by saw what seemed to be a hand sticking out of the canal. He stopped to check it out and found the woman crying for help. He immediately called for assistance.
Respondents included officials from Barangay Bula, the Bureau of Fire Protection, and the City Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office. They used a metal bar to remove a concrete slab blocking the canal.
Barangay personnel then went down to rescue the woman, whom they initially thought was a child. She was given a breathing apparatus following her ordeal.
Rescuers administered first aid before bringing her to the hospital.
She didn't sustain any injury and is already in stable condition.
Last May, the Philippines was captivated by a woman coming out of a sewer in broad daylight amid the city traffic in Makati.
Authorities initially announced that the woman was among those who turned the drainage into a home. They discovered several things inside, including pliers, small objects, and shirts.
The Department of Social Welfare and Development later identified the woman as "Rose," who it said was among the families and individuals in street situations profiled for assistance under its Pag-Abot Program. It also gave her P80,000.
Rose, meanwhile, denied living inside the drainage, saying she only went inside after supposedly dropping her "cutter blade" there.
