A Kuwait overseas Filipino worker, who was thought to be sleeping on the bus, turned out to be dead while traveling to Dumaguete.

In a statement shared on Facebook, the Overseas Workers Welfare Administration expressed its condolences to the family of Wilma Auza and said they're now in close contact with them.

“Nakausap na po ng OWWA ang kanyang pamilya at patuloy na nakikipag-ugnayan upang maipaabot ang taos-pusong pakikiramay, suporta, at tulong-pinansyal na nakalaan para sa kanila sa ilalim ng mga umiiral na programa para sa kapakanan ng mga naiwang pamilya ng ating mga OFW," the agency said.

According to a report by the Philippine News Agency, OWWA administrator Patricia Yvonne Caunan said Auza was returning to her hometown after completing her employment contract abroad.

She reportedly had several stopovers before reaching Dumaguete.

Auza was said to be throwing up during the ride, and she seemed unwell. She eventually settled and fell asleep.

Passengers, however, weren't able to wake her up when they got to the bus terminal, and then found out that she was no longer breathing.

Per the PNA, emergency responders arrived at the scene and transported Auza’s body to a rural health unit for a medical examination.

Investigations are still underway to determine the circumstances surrounding Auza's death.

“We are finding out po kasi 'di naman po siya repatriated worker," Caunan said. "Siya po ay umuwi because of end of contract. We are on the ground. We are going to release an update soon."
