Gordon Ramsay undergoes surgery for skin cancer
Gordon Ramsay has revealed that he recently had surgery to remove basal cell carcinoma, a common type of skin cancer.
On Instagram, the celebrity chef shared a photo of himself with a bandage on the side of his face, just below his ear. A subsequent slide showed the resulting scar.
"Grateful and so appreciative for the incredible team at The Skin Associates and their fast reactive work on removing this Basal Cell Carcinoma, [T]hank you!" he wrote in the caption.
"Please don't forget your sunscreen this weekend. I promise you it's not a [facelift]! I'd need a refund," the 58-year-old chef added.
According to Mayo Clinic, Basal cell carcinoma is a type of skin cancer that begins in the basal cells, which produce new skin cells when old ones die off.
This type of skin cancer often appears as a slightly transparent bump and occurs in areas exposed to the sun like the head and neck.
The Mayo Clinic also stated that most cases of this type of skin cancer are believed to be caused by long-term exposure to ultraviolet radiation from the sun.
