Apple fans, are you ready? Here's when the tech giant will reportedly unveil its iPhone 17 lineup
Will the iPhone 17 lineup be released soon?
German website iPhone-Ticker, citing "internal information from German mobile phone providers," claimed that the iPhone 17 will be announced on Sept. 9, Tuesday, at 10 a.m. Pacific Time (Sept. 10, Wednesday, 1 a.m., Philippine time).
It's the same date as the launch of the iPhone 16 during the "Glowtime" event in 2024.
iPhone-Ticker said the process "follows the usual pattern" of launching pre-orders on the following Friday, Sept. 12, and on the next Friday, Sept. 19, deliveries to Apple Stores and authorized partners will begin.
The United States, China, Europe, and Japan will receive initial deliveries as iPhone's "most important markets worldwide," it added.
'Particularly thin' iPhone?
iPhone-Ticker speculated that Apple will abandon the previously offered Plus model and instead introduce the "particularly thin" iPhone 17 Air, the fourth model alongside the regular iPhone 17 and its Pro and Pro Max variants.
The iPhone 17 is "expected" to have a redesigned back panel and a repositioned camera unit, it added.
Though technical details haven't been confirmed yet, iPhone-Ticker said initial leaks point to subtle design changes and possible improvements to the display and camera.
Forbes, citing earlier leaks, reported that the iPhone 17 Air is expected to measure around 5.5mm in thickness. (A dummy unit measures 5.44mm.) That makes it thicker than Apple’s slimmest product, the M4 iPad Pro (5.1mm), and, if true, would become the world’s thinnest phone.
Macworld, a digital magazine specializing in Apple news, cited rumors saying iPhone 17 Pro will have a new rear camera design, a thicker aluminum body, and new, bolder colors.
Other Apple products like the third generation of AirPods Pro and new Apple Watch models are also reportedly expected in the rumored Sept. 9 event, according to iPhone-Ticker and Macworld.
Apple previously announced the budget iPhone 16e last February. Its features include Face ID and a notched screen (a first for a special edition iPhone); a 6.1-inch display; a 48MP Fusion camera at the back; a 26-hour battery life; and C1, the tech giant's first modem that supports 5G cellular connectivity.
Like the ones in the series, it also has an action button for programmable shortcuts sans the new camera control button; a USB-C port and support for wireless charging; an A18 processor that boasts of faster performance; and Apple Intelligence, the company's own AI which provides writing assistance, image generation, and smarter interaction with digital assistant Siri.
