Check this out, commuters!

Starting Friday, July 25, cashless fare payments are accepted on the Metro Rail Transit Line 3.

The Department of Transportation launched cashless payments on the MRT-3, where commuters can pay for their fares via debit, credit, prepaid cards, and online wallets like GCash.

With the aim of "commuting made easier for Filipinos," the project was launched in partnership with the Department of Information and Communications Technology, Bangko Sentral ng Pilipinas, and GCash. Its simple tap and go feature allows commuters to skip the long lines at the counter and head straight to the train platform.

DOTr Secretary Vince Dizon was among the first to try the new feature at Ayala station by tapping the GCash QR code on the designated turnstile before entering the platform.

Those entitled to 50% discounts, students, persons with disabilities, and senior citizens, however, would still have to avail of the single ticket journey at the counter for now.
