Here’s the most important thing you should do to avoid bad luck during Ghost Month
Ghost Month is here.
This eerie period, which will last until Sept. 21, is usually associated with bad luck from active ghosts and spirits from the "gates of hell" that are believed to be open night and day.
In an interview with PhilSTAR L!fe, feng shui coach Johnson Chua emphasized that the term “gates of hell” doesn’t exactly mean a place of punishment with no end. In Chinese culture, it refers to the underworld or the "lower realm where the spirits can come out and roam around in the world of the living."
By now, we are somehow aware of what not to do to keep bad luck away: Avoid staying outside late at night, avoid swimming, avoid making major career and business moves, avoid picking things like coins or food outside, avoid holding loud celebrations—and the list goes on.
But when it comes to what to do, Chua noted "practicing DHV" as the most important among the known dos like lighting incense, keeping your space clean, and wearing bright-colored clothes.
DHV, or demonstrating higher value, basically means showing your worth and putting your best foot forward at all times.
"This helps to uplift good vibration, harness good energy, and manifest success," he told L!fe.
Now, how can you practice DHV? According to the feng shui master, this can be done by "thinking positive, feeling positive, and acting positive."
"Positive thinking and negative thinking require the same energy and effort," he said. "What matters is the right mindset. With it, you get to lessen your problems."
Per Chua, we are more prone to emotional instability during Ghost Month. "And we attract negative energy if our emotions are not stable," he continued. "If we have negative energy, we absorb even the negative emotions of other people. We want more of the positive emotions to repel the bad vibes."
"Having positive energy means giving inspiration and keeping a positive outlook," he explained, adding that it also includes saying no to fear, which he noted could be one of the main sources of negativity.
"As long as you stay positive and don't harm others in any way, good karma will always be with you," he concluded. "Let your positivity protect you, and let this awareness be your guide."
