There's a new trend that's taking over social media as of late, and it has something to do with flexing your gorgeous facial features on the internet.

You've probably come across the phrase "Sobrang Latina" in your feed if you've been spending a significant amount of time on TikTok or Instagram.

Hundreds of social media users have been using the line since it became hot—even Filipino stars such as Kris Bernal, Buboy Villar, and more have drawn laughs with their own takes on it.

Origin of the 'Sobrang Latina' phrase

The phrase originated from a TikTok video made by content creator Sesable, where she can be seen expressing how proud she was of her makeup that made her look like a Latina, who are known for their exotic beauty.

"POV: Sobrang ganda ng makeup ko," the video's caption read.

"Sobrang Latina!" Sesable said as she pointed towards herself through her phone's selfie camera. "Hayop ka talaga. Ang ganda ganda mo."

"Sobrang ganda mo. Kagwapa ba oy. Grabe, ang pagkamonyeka sa babae. Monyeka, Latina, gorgeous," she added.

The video has since gotten more than five million views and more than 600,000 reactions since it was shared.

How people are jumping on the trend

Thanks to Sesable's hilarious way of complimenting herself and appreciating her makeup skills on top of her stunning face card, a lot of social media users have begun to use her video's sound and lipsync to her words as they flex their own beauty looks.

Kris Bernal, for one, made her own version of it as she sported eyelash extensions, pink lips, blushes on her cheeks, and a flowery blue dress.

Another celebrity who put his own spin on the trend is Buboy Villar, who tickled the funny bone of his followers by dressing up as a woman complete with an ash blonde wig and full makeup.

Because of his convincing look, some of his followers even had a hard time recognizing him at first.

"Grabe ka, Buboy. Hindi kita nakilala. Akala ko si Ms. Tuesday Vargas," one user said.

But flexing one's look isn't the only thing the trend is used for. Some social media users decided to get creative with the sound to poke fun at their exaggerated makeup.

Others have even roped in their pets and made them look as if they had makeup on.
