Julio Estolloso, the vice mayor of Ibajay, Aklan, was shot to death by his own colleague inside the town hall.

The Philippine STAR’s The Freeman reported that the shooting incident took place at the Sangguniang Bayan office on Friday morning, Aug. 8.

The suspect was identified as councilor Mihrel Senatin, who surrendered to authorities afterward.

The motive for his killing is yet to be determined.

‘Deeply concerning’

According to GMA News, a report by the Police Regional Office 6 said that Senatin arrived at the SB office at 9:15 a.m. and asked for a record of local ordinances that were passed during his term.

He then allegedly asked Estolloso, “Vice, anu ang saea kimu?” (What wrong have I done to you?) before shooting him, leaving him with multiple gunshot wounds.

Estolloso was rushed to a nearby hospital but was declared on arrival.

PRO6 chief Police Brigadier General Josefino Ligan described the incident as “deeply concerning, especially as it involves individuals who serve the public in positions of trust.”

“We recognize the sensitivity of the matter and extend our thoughts to everyone affected, especially the families and communities involved,” he added.

According to Ligan, the case is now being handled “with utmost professionalism and impartiality."

“Let us allow the due process of law to take its course while we work toward maintaining peace and order in the region,” he continued.
