Student lanes for MRT-3, LRT-2 now open

Commuting has now become easier for students as the Metro Rail Transit Line 3 and Light Rail Transit Line 2 have opened dedicated lanes where students can get discounted tickets.

Students must present their IDs and write their names on a registry to avail the 50% discount on single journey tickets. If you don't have one with you, an alternative would be to present your school registration form.

For those traveling via LRT-1, it will implement its own system to speed up queuing and minimize delays. For now, end-to-end trips priced at P55 have been lowered to P28 for students.

"President Marcos’ instruction is to ease the lives of commuters. We should not make it hard to verify student discounts so that passengers reach their schools on time,” Transportation Secretary Vince Dizon said.

According to him, the discounted train tickets will only be available for all students until the Marcos administration ends in 2028.

Aside from students, families can also save up on their train rides after the launch of the "Pamilya Pass 1+3" promo, which is available on Sundays for the MRT-3, LRT-1, and LRT-2 lines.

For this, one family member shall pay for a single journey ticket, and their companions will be issued three more to be presented at the guard at the service gate.

According to Dizon, groups of friends may also enjoy the promo, which will go on until the last Sunday of 2028. There's also no need to present IDs to avail.

Additionally, the MRT and LRT lines also announced that they would begin accepting card and mobile payments by July. (with reports from Elijah Felice Rosales and Christine Boton)
