Amid heavy rains and severe floods brought about by the southwest monsoon, or habagat, and severe tropical storm Crising, several groups have taken it upon themselves to organize community kitchens to help those affected by the inclement weather.

Ana Patricia Non, who is known to have led the community pantry movement in the Philippines in 2021, shared on Facebook that they have currently set up 36 kitchens in different parts of Manila and surrounding areas.

She also implored others to contact the organizers for anyone willing to volunteer.

"Sa ngayon po mayroon po tayong 36 kitchens. Inaantay lang po natin ang final na listahan sa Pasig, Marikina at iba pang areas," Non said.

Pwede po tayo magpadala ng tulong dito, maaari din po natin sila i-contact kung gusto po natin mag-volunteer. Hiwalay na din po ang contact para direct na po sa kanila ang help natin. Ingat po sa lahat! Bukod po sa hot meals priority po natin ang safety," she added.

"We have some Benguet veggies still available. We need donors so we can purchase them all, along with rice from Rizal and Nueva Ecija, and send them tomorrow to Trining's Kitchen Stories in Marikina, where Chef Jayson Gaspar Maulit and I will cook them into meals for beleaguered communities in Pasig and Marikina," she said.

"Please send me a private message so we can coordinate. We need volunteer cooks and preps and packers too! Raise your hand please. Every bit of help you can extend is important and valuable. You can drop off donations at Trinings Kitchen Stories, Gil Fernando Avenue, Marikina," she added.

Araos-Wijangco detailed that they need rice, proteins such as chicken, pork, and beef, condiments, cooking oil, big cauldron, serving spoons, high-pressure stoves, and cleaning supplies.

For July 20 to July 24, the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration said that although Crising will be outside the Philippine Area of Responsibility, the southwest monsoon or habagat will continue to affect the country. It will bring occasional rains to the western sections of Luzon and Visayas.
