WATCH: Will Ashley's Arvin laments working student life to Rocco Nacino's Prof. Torran in 'Bar Boys: After School' teaser
The sequel to the hit 2017 comedy-drama Bar Boys has released its first official teaser, giving a look at the character of rising star Will Ashley.
In the 56-second teaser of Bar Boys: After School, Arvin (Ashley), a working student, speaks with Torran (Rocco Nacino), the first movie's aspiring law student who's now a law professor. Arvin laments the difficulties of studying hard and working hard at the same time.
"To get to where I am, doble 'yung pagod, doble 'yung puyat, doble 'yung self-doubt ko," he says. "'Yung ibang students, kain, aral, tulog. Ako hindi."
The scene cuts to Arvin sitting on the slab and reading his codal, before his boss (Emilio Daez) calls him to get back to work. In a voice-over, he compares himself to other students who have the luxury of sleeping immediately upon returning home, unlike him who makes a cup of coffee to stay up late.
"Kasi magsisimula pa lang 'yung araw ko," he adds as he enters the building before the title card flashes on the screen.
According to director Kip Oebanda, Bar Boys: After School can be summarized as: "A law school barkada's tenth-year reunion becomes bittersweet when they find out that one of their beloved mentors is deathly ill, all alone, and abandoned by the family. They take the place of the said family. In return, they learn lessons that only life and the passage of time can teach—about integrity, self-improvement, and finding meaning in what you do."
The original Bar Boys starred Nacino, Carlo Aquino, Enzo Pineda, and Kean Cipriano as a group of friends who aspire to be lawyers.
A musical version, titled Bar Boys: The Musical, hit the stage in 2024.
The quad will reprise their roles alongside Odette Khan and Vance Larena.
New cast members include Ashley, Klarisse De Guzman, Glaiza De Castro, Sassa Gurl, Therese Malvar, Jorybell Agoto, Royce Cabrera, Joel Saracho, and Benedix Ramos of the musical.
